If you or your loved one has a hearing loss, remember this: Hearing loss is far from uncommon. More than 28 million Americans have a hearing loss. Nearly 5 percent of those 18-44 years of age have a hearing loss, 14 percent of adults 45-64 years of age are affected, and more than half of those over age 65 experience it.
According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 60 to 90 percent of nursing home residents may have communications disabilities. And more than 50 percent of those with a hearing loss are affected in both ears.
